Not this year. Last Christmas I had just moved in to a new house and had a teeny tiny baby so, to be honest, I didn’t even know who I was half the time let alone having the wherewithal to decorate my house. So this year I am planning on making up for it.
I know it makes me a massive geek, but I like a Christmas decorating theme (I can imagine my friend Abi chuckling at me even as I write this!). Recent favourites include ‘recycled Christmas’ (think lots of newspaper garlands) and ‘black and white’. One year I did a lot of stuff with lime.
This year, I’m going to go for a lot of natural stuff (tree, wood, twigs, holly, paper, pine cones) but without the traditional, cottage style that usually accompanies these. Instead, I’m hoping to use bolder and more modern colours and shapes. Well, that’s the plan anyway.
So far, I’ve bought some wooden and woven hearts that I’m going to try and de-twee (yeah I know that’s not a word, but that gingham is going):
And I’ve just ordered some paper balls like we used to have when we were kids.
So now I just need to raid my garage, get making with my daughter and bring bits of my garden inside!
